The Texas State Fair has offered fried bubblegum and other lip smacking delights as finalists for the Big Tex choice awards. A panel of judges will determine the winners and choose the most creative foods to sale during the annual expo in Dallas.
Officials described the fried bubblegum as flavored marshmallow dipped in batter and fried, then topped with icing and powdered sugar.
The finalist are a sausage and sauerkraut ball, a puff pastry stuffed with pumpkin and cream cheese, buffalo chicken strips coated in flapjack batter and fried, a taco served in a bag of nacho cheese Doritos, deep fried pineapple upside down cake, deep fried salsa and fried bananas rolled in a flour tortilla.
Why is everything fried? Whatever happened to a bake sale?
For those that are interested in clogging their arteries, the state fair runs from September 30th through October 23rd. More information can be found here.
