Dunkin’ Donuts Creates a “Donut Bacon Sandwich”

The clever breakfast designers at Dunkin’ Donuts invented a revolutionary breakfast sandwich called the “Donut Bacon Sandwich”!

The Donut Bacon Sandwich consists of one sliced donut, eggs, and bacon.

Have you ever imagined merging sweet and savory with the distinctive saltiness of bacon or eggs? Together, the two adversely different tastes interconnect and form the ultimate flavor-punch to the palate. The clever breakfast designers at Dunkin’ Donuts invented a revolutionary breakfast sandwich called the “Donut Bacon Sandwich” that blends the sweetness of doughnuts with the heartiness of protein. Surprisingly, the breakfast sandwich contains a mere 360 calories and has relatively less calories than their 490 calorie classic Bacon Egg and Cheese Bagel.

Dunkin’ Donuts, formerly known as “Open Kettle”, was founded by Bill Rosenberg in 1948 in the small town of Quincy, Massachusetts. Several years later, the company changed its name to “Dunkin’ Donuts” and opened its first franchise in Worcester. The continued success of the company resulted in approximately 1,000 Dunkin’ Donuts franchises by the late 1970s.  Meanwhile, new items were introduced including “Munchkins”, fun-sized mini donut balls, and muffins.

Breakfast sandwiches are fairly new additions to the Dunkin’ Donuts menu: bagels were introduced in 1996 and breakfast sandwiches came the following year. Granted, the new breakfast sandwich is an unexpected fusion of two distant flavors, yet critics concede that the tastes are well-balanced and provide an optimized breakfast experience for customers.

Customers will have the option of customizing their donut type (ex. glazed, powdered, or chocolate) similar to the ability of a customer to decide what bagel flavor (ex. ‘everything’, poppy seed, onion) to use on a traditional breakfast sandwich. A strawberry-sprinkled sandwich or chocolate glazed bacon breakfast sandwich is one of the many breakfast combinations consumers can anticipate on choosing.

With over 3,000 stores worldwide, Dunkin’ Donuts expects to release the Donut Bacon Sandwich Friday, June 7th in lieu of the company’s self-proclaimed “National Donut Day”. Buzz60 also released an informative video regarding the new sandwich, check out the video below!
