Another racial scandal has hit the White House

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has apologized for racial remarks he made during the 2008 presidential campaign about then-candidate Barack Obama after they were revealed in a forth-coming campaign book, “Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime. The book recounts private remarks made by Reid during the campaign — in support of Obama — that the country was ready for a “light-skinned” African-American president with “no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”

“I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments,” he said today, “I was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama during the campaign and have worked as hard as I can to advance President Obama’s legislative agenda. Moreover, throughout my career, from efforts to integrate the Las Vegas strip and the gaming industry to opposing radical judges and promoting diversity in the Senate, I have worked hard to advance issues important to the African American community.”

What do you guys think about this racially charged statement?  Was he correct or just completely off base?  Was he simply stating the obvious but should’ve kept what he was thinking to himself?  In a weird way there may be some truth to what he was saying.  Was America ready for someone as dark as Wesley Snipes and who talked like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson?
