Marlon Wayans is on the come up. He seems to be the one in the family that’s been able to venture away from the nest the most and get involved with other projects that aren’t tied to anyone in the Wayans clan.
He’s all set to impersonate Richard Pryor in a biopic of the late, great comedian. The role was originally for Eddie Murphy, but contract talks with Murphy deteriorated, which left the door wide open for Wayans.
Variety reports that the Columbia production is budgeted at just under $20m and will be directed by Bill Condon, creator of the Oscar-winning Dreamgirls. The film is due to shoot in the US next spring.
Condon’s film, Richard Pryor: Is it Something I Said?, will chart the turbulent life and times of Pryor. It’d be kind of interesting to watch Wayans expand his acting chops and see the Late great comic on the big screen.
