Chiddy Bang – Hip Hop’s New Direction

Chiddy Bang is a breath of fresh air in the dingy, smoke-filled, basement bathroom that is Hip Hop today.

For only releasing their first mind-blowingly-awesome mixtape, “The Swelly Express”, less than a year ago, the Philadelphia-based, alternative hip hop group, ‘Chiddy Bang’, has built up more potential energy than the first 12 Apollo missions, combined.

Insightful lead-vocalist, Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege, and innovative beat-maker, Noah “Xaphoon Jones” Beresin, both only 20 years old, use inexperience to their advantage, as they craft progressive, elegant, truthful, and extremely catchy tracks that are virtually devoid of the turmoil and rubbish that hip hop fans have suffered through for the last few years (or, should I say, since Soulja Boy and Autotune ruined the scene).

Dream Chasin’ is probably my favorite track from these guys. Even in a song about working to get to the top, Chiddy’s lyrics give off a sense of wisdom, which only seems to strengthen throughout the song, as Xaphoon, one of the most dynamic hip hop DJs I have ever heard, weaves element after element into the beat with perfect timing.  Gotta love the Michael Phelps/Lois Lane line that comes outta nowhere, too.

Here are a few more links to their songs (“Slow Down” and “Never” are just plain nasty, especially “Never”):

Bad Day featuring Darwin Deez – funky/lighthearted track that makes me feel good about hating my ex

Hey London – very upbeat, solid… first Chiddy Bang song I ever heard (Thanks, Danieli)

Opposite of Adults (video) – Remix of MGMT – Kids… featured in the new Need for Speed game

Never – Wow… this song is powerful

Slow Down – I just wanna get to know ya’
