Fox has released the series premiere episode early via iTunes, OnDemand, & other similar venues. The comedy features Zooey Deschanel as Jess Day. I have been looking forward to this show for months and it was not quite what I expected. This is actually a good thing. We’ve all seen the show about the quirky girl betrayed by her lover and slowly making her way back out into the dating world. Well, enter Nick (Jake M. Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Winston (Lamorne Morris). The pilot features Damon Wayans Jr. as Coach, the original third roommate before Lamorne Morris arrives for the second episode. I really enjoyed Wayans’ character but his commitment to ABC’s “Happy Ending” made it impossible for the actor to stick around for “New Girl”
“Sex & the City” this show is not. I almost wish they’d called it, “3 Dudes & the New Girl.” Yes, we’re treated to Jess mourning her broken relationship by camping out on the sofa for a cryfest and “Dirty Dancing” marathon. Seen it! Haven’t seen it with three very straight and eligible bachelors looking on in horror at their new roomie, clueless how to procede. Jess is adorably dorky and just a little (very) naïve. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out over the television season, the boys offering dating advice. Getting a view into the oh so complicated minds of men (and women) when comes to dating. I had an “oh dear god no…I do that” moment at one point but seriously haven’t we all. Check it out. I’ll definitely be watching…if only to see the guys serenading Jess and butchering “I’ve Had the Time of My Life” in the middle of a room full of people.
Oooh and there’s a douchebag jar!!! What’s that? Watch and find out. Fox’s “New Girl” airs Tuesdays @ 9PM EST/ 8PM CST starting 9/20.
