After a recent incident which saw a 23 year old South African arrested for smuggling drugs in her synthetic dreadlocks; airport security checks have been tightened to include weave and dreadlocks scrutiny. Gabrielle Union was subject to the same scrutiny, when her weave seemed to have flagged suspicion.
“If human hair & thread sets off the body scanner… a lot of folks jus ended up on the ‘watch list’… it’s a weave not terrorism,” Gabrielle tweeted. She did not take the invasive scrutiny lightly and added, “Ma weave got ‘flagged’ by the bodyscan at security, TSA required a hair pat doen. No lie… they coulda just asked if it was the temple hair.”
One of her followers sympathized with her and said that she always gets stopped by a black security guard.
Gabby was however in more joking mood after boarding the plane tweeting, “bout to take off…hopefully my weave doesn’t cause turbulence…its clearly very powerful :)”
