A large gathering turned up in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand on Saturday night to celebrate the 16th annual Power of Love gala in honor of boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
In attendance were acclaimed celebrities including Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Samuel Jackson, Snoop Dog, John Legend, Oprah, Diddy, Kelly Rowland, Lenny Kravitz, Neyo, Common, Bob Arum, and Sugar Ray Leonard. President Obama sent his regards through a video message.
As a way to bid the late Whitney goodbye; Stevie Wonder performed the song Ribbon in the sky during Whitney’s funeral service. He later on flew to Las Vegas and performed the song Happy Birthday to the boxing champion.
Ali arrived at the venue around 9.30 pm sometime and although his energy levels are not very high these days, he was around until the festivity ended. As the crowd joined Stevie Wonder in singing Happy Birthday, a large cake was brought in by some of Ali’s former competitors, who included George Foreman.
The 70 year old Ali was without a doubt the focus of attention at the 16th annual Power of Love celebrations, which seeks to benefit the Muhammad Ali Foundation together with the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. Ali who turned 70 last month was diagnosed with the Parkinson’s disease in 1984. The event raised a large sum of money, with the attending guests buying a plate at $1,500 -$10,000 each, and the event hosted about 2000 people.
Due to his condition, Ali’s wife, Lonnie gave a vote of thanks to the guests for the love and support they accorded towards the Boxing Champion.
