Maya Angelou recently expressed her sentiments about President Obama’s re-election, and she gave her accolades to the president who she says has ‘delivered.’ She said that she does not care about the president’s critics – bearing in mind that Martin Luther King and Angelou had actually discussed the likelihood of an African-American president. She labored with Martin Luther king in the 60’s where she was an organizer for leadership conferences.
Angelou asserts that Obama is not only black, but also prides himself as America’s first black president. She continues to say that he has impacted the black community in such a great way that many American children want to emulate.
The 83 year old veteran civil rights activist and poet was overjoyed when she received a BET Honors award that was handed to her by Michelle Obama. Michelle Obama gave a short speech about Maya’s extraordinary work and it its impact on the Obama Family over the past two decades.
She is proud of the positive progress the blacks have made in the last 150 years and hopes that after the president’s term in office ends he will get a second chance.
