Nothing wakes you up like finding a cat with two heads.
A rare two-faced kitten was born in Amity, Ore. early Tuesday morning. The Durkee family felt it was only proper to name her Deucy. Ironically, Deucy was born at 6:11 a.m. on June 11 (6/11). At first, Stephanie Durkee thought her kids were imagining things. Durkee said, “This morning the kids actually found them and came in and said, ‘Mom, there’s a kitty with two heads,’ and I said,’I think you guys are just tired, you’re crazy that doesn’t happen.'”
Deucy was born with two faces. She has four eyes, two noses, two mouths, and one body. Durkee rushed little Deucy to the veterinarian. Durkee received good news from the vet. Deucy has healthy organs. Durkee told Portland’s KGW-TV that Deucy is a very vocal kitty.
Deucy is very popular in the neighborhood, and in the news. However, Deucy is not popular with her mother. According to NBC Bay Area, the kitten has been rejected by its mother. Deucy is not out of luck, as Durkee said she will take care of her.
This is not the first two-faced cat ever born. Believe it or not, this does happen once in a while. According to Yahoo’s “The Sideshow” blog, the last Janus cat was born in 2012. This male cat was named Harvey Dent after the Batman villain “Two-Face”.
Janus cats typically do not live long lives. The Harvey Dent cat lasted only two days. Durkee understands Deucy may not live a long life, but she remains optimistic. There is a chance that Deucy can defy the odds. According to the Huffington Post, a Janus cat named Frankelouie was inducted into the Guiness Book of World Records for the longest living Janus cat when he turned 12. Deucy’s health appears to have her on the right track.
Update: It looks like it was not meant to be. Durkee informed KGW that Deucy passed away Thursday due to health complications.
