Steven Seagal, action movie star, is looking to add governor to his résumé… governor of Arizona that is.
Seagal, who is also an expert in martial arts and a reality star, said he was thinking about running for Arizona’s governor. He’s even been in talks with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Arpaio is known throughout the country for his tough border-control methods.
The talk in career change for Seagal surfaced when speaking about the upcoming “Steven Seagal – Lawman: Maricopa County”, a reality series that shows Seagal riding along and helping police during their arrests and investigations including helping Arpaio. The series was filmed completely in Arizona and will be aired on the Reelz Channel.
Seagal has not made known all his stances known but did stated border control issues are of extreme importance to the United States. The actor defended Arpaio for his border control methods and talked about the possibility of giving amnesty to those undocumented immigrants already in the U.S.
Seagal has no political experience but he does have law enforcement training. More than two decades ago, the actor graduated from a Los Angeles police academy. He also said, on his show, that he has a Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) certification, but POST has no record of this. At a Jefferson Parish, Louisiana Sheriff’s Office, Seagal is a ceremonial Reserve Deputy Chief.
This is not the first actor to go for a high office in the United States. Terminator actor Arnold Schwarzenegger became governor of California in October 2003 and was elected for a second term in November 2006. He left the office in 2011. Jesse Ventura became a governor of Minnesota between January 1999 and January 2003. He did not seek re-election after the first term. Former U.S. president Ronald Reagan was also an actor and held a position as governor of California between 1967 and 1975.
