Adding to his long list of brushes with the law, Justin Bieber was recently stopped and arrested by Miami Beach police after he was caught drag street racing during the early morning hours of Jan. 23. He has been charged with resisting arrest, DUI and driving without a valid license.
According to the police arrest report, 19-year-old Bieber asked the officer pulling him over, “Why did you stop me? What the f… did I do?” He was released from jail one hour after a video link was established with a Miami judge, who set the usual $2,500 bond for these types of charges. During the bail hearing, he wore the prison orange uniform and stood beside his attorney Roy Black silent. Black informed Judge Joseph Farina that Bieber’s manager retained him to represent the teen star.
According to Raymond Martinez, Miami Beach police chief, Bieber failed a sobriety test and was taken into custody and booked into the Miami jail. During the test, Bieber allegedly made statements that he smoked marijuana, drank alcohol and even consumed prescription medication.
Bieber’s latest stint began when a Miami Beach officer spotted his yellow Lamborghini racing a red Ferrari in a neighborhood of the area. Both cars were reaching speeds of 60mph; the area has a maximum speed limit of 30mph. Two black SUVs blocked traffic at Pine Tree Drive and 26th that allowed for an open road for the two cars to race along Pine Tree.
Bieber’s vehicle was pulled over but the Canadian singer was less than cooperative with the instructions the officer was giving him. According to Martinez, Bieber was belligerent, using profanity to question why he was stopped and why he was even being questioned. He said Bieber ignored the request the officer made to him to keep the singer’s hands on the vehicle while he was patted down.
According to the arrest report, Bieber cursed that he “had no f….ing weapons” and questioned why he was being searched. The officer noted that he had alcohol odor on his breath, bloodshot eyes and a flushed face.
Police said Khalil Sharieff, a Def Jam recording artist, 19, was the driver of the Ferrari and was arrested as well for DUI.
Bieber’s Other Brushes With Law Enforcement
Although this is the first time Bieber has actually been arrested, he has many brushes with the law:
- Police are still investigating him for allegedly egging his neighbor’s home in California. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office executed a felony search warrant to search the singer’s home, seizing his iPhone and security camera system. Detectives are look for clues as to who is responsible for throwing eggs for a fence and hitting the neighbor’s home, which caused about $20,000 in damage.
- Deputies have looked into reports that Bieber raced his posh sports cars down the exclusive Oaks community in Calabasas, Cali. No charges were filed.
- A neighbor of Bieber accused him of spitting at his face while the two argued in March.
- Deputies have also responded to Bieber’s home due to loud parties.
- None of these were prosecuted because things could not be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.
- Prosecutors rejected a photographer’s misdemeanor battery complaint after he accused Bieber in May 2012 of hitting him at a Calabasas shopping center while he took pictures of Bieber and his on-again, off-again girlfriend Selena Gomez.
Last week, Sheriff Lt. David Thompson said the search warrant wasn’t executed to send Bieber a message. Rather, it was done in the hopes that some of his behavior will change due to the severity of the issue.
