Motley Cruemade the announcement: the band will do one more tour together – 72 concerts – and disperse. The band members signed a legal document during a Hollywood news conference, which confirms the statement.
Doug Mark, attorney for the band, said the document is known as the “cessation of touring” document, a phrase that no one has used ever due to the fact that there is no such kind of document. In this agreement, the four members agree not to use the Motley Crue trademark after the tour.
Vince Neil, the band’s vocalist, said it could take up to two years to conclude… perhaps longer.
The tour is set to begin on Aug. 29 at the Jones Beach Theater with Alice Cooper as the opening act.
52-year-old Neil said the band began talking some time ago about what they should do. He said they agreed they didn’t want to be the band that had one or two guys original members left. Neil said the founding members, all four, wanted to quit together.
Nikki Sixx, 55 and the band’s bassist, said they’re proactive about all things they have done, which includes ending the Motley Crue band.
Motley Cue was founded in 1981 and sold about 100 million albums, starting with its “Too Fast For Love” self-released album. In 1989, the band had a number one hit with “Dr. Feelgood”. Critics have never been a fan of the bands, but during their years together, they were nodded for three Grammy nominations for the category “Best Hard Rock Performance”.
Band members said solo projects were already in the works. Tommy Lee, the 51-year-old drummer, said he has many huge surprises that he couldn’t talk about.
Mick Mars, lead guitarist, said the men love one another like family (brothers) and they wanted to go out together on top. He said it was time for the band to break up and move on.
