During his thursday appearance on HuffPost Live the Hip-Hop mogul had a message to the Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel that Chicago schools needed Yoga meditation.
Simmons indicated that he has already worked to implement yoga and meditation in schools through his work with the David Lynch Foundation. Simmons said his next target was Chicago, where some students encounter violence on a regularly basis.
In the 2011-2012 school year, 24 Chicago public school students were fatally shot and 319 other students were wounded in gunfire.
Russell Simmons, who released the book Success Through Stillness: Meditation Made Simple this week said positive results were noticed in some schools where they have instituted positive results.
He Indicated implementing yoga in some schools was easy although some parents complained that yoga classes taking place in public schools were violating the principle of the separation of church and state however a judge ruled last year that California public school district could offer the classes.
