The Jets signed Mike Vick after they cut Mark Sanchez. The news of the quarterback shuffle raised many reactions and questions about the future of Geno Smith, who is currently the teams starting quarterback.
Sanchez, 27 was expected to be released due to the money owed to him as part of a lucrative contract extension he signed in March 2012. Jets coach Rex Ryan thanked Mark for everything he’s done for the team and went on to label him as a great player and a great teammate and went ahead to wish him the best.
During his first two seasons with the Jets he led the team to consecutive AFC Championship Games, however the team lost track as he struggled to make an impact.
Sanchez went ahead to miss the 2013 season after undergoing a surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder suffered during the pre-season. Sanchez had been competing with Smith at the time of his injury to be the team’s starting quarterback.
Vick was a free agent after spending the last five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles but he has struggled with injuries over the past three seasons and he was knocked off the starting berth by Nick Foles in 2013.
Marty Mornhinweg, Jets offensive coordinator who had previously coached Vick in Philadelphia suggested that the move will bring competition to Smith. Some Jets fans were positive of the moves as they took t twitter to label the day as a big one. However some fans were not that happy with the move as Vick’s dog fighting past can’t seen to escape him.
