The ”Elektra” star is set to join the ”Breaking Bad” frontman in ”Wakefield”, an adaptation of a short story by E. L, Doctorow which is based on a book by the same name by Nathanial Hawthorne. The film has already started production in Los Angeles under Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn production company Mockingbird Pictures.
”Wakefield” focuses on Cranston’s character. A Manhattan lawyer who suffers a nervous breakdown and leaves his wife to go and live in the attic for several months. Jennifer Garner, star of ”Juno”, is set to play opposite Cranston as his wife.
Curtis and Lynn formed Mockingbird Pictures after producing ”Albert Nobbs” and have since produced ”The Face of Love” and ”5 to 7”. Alongside Curtis and Lynn will be Broadway producers Wendy Federman and Carl Moellenberg. The team are known for the award winning ”Hair”, ”War Horse” and ”Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime”. They also produced the recent play ”All The Way” in which Cranston won a Tony award for his portrayal of Lyndon B. Johnson.
Wakefield is being directed by Robin Swicord, who also penned the screenplay. Swicord is known for writing the screenplays for ”Matilda”, ”Memoirs of a Geisha” and ”The Jane Austen Book Club”, on which Swicord was also the director.
Garner is the only cast member to be announced other than Cranston. Most recently she appeared in Dan Fogelman’s ”Danny Collins” alongside Annette Bening and Al Pacino and is due to appear in the upcoming adaptation of the Christy Beam novel ”Miracles from Heaven” with Queen Latifah and Martin Henderson. She is also filming the Barry Sonnenfeld film ”Nine Lives” with ”Arrow” star Robbie Amell and Hollywood legends Kevin Spacey and Christopher Walken.
Cranston, who recently portrayed Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, is also set to star in the Dylan Kidd comedy ”Get a Job” with ”Twilight” star Anna Kendrick as well as ”Kung Fu Panda 3”, ”Infiltrator” and James Franco’s ”In Dubious Battle”.
Wakefield is currently set for release some time in 2016.
