Real life Baltimore drug kingpin Melvin Williams, who inspired the hit television drama ‘The Wire’, has passed away in Baltimore.
Williams was one of the most notorious drug dealers during his heyday of the 70s and 80s, eventually serving several years locked up for his crimes. Street folklore made him a household name on Baltimore streets and his notoriety led to the creation of the show ‘The Wire’, which chronicled the city and its underworld to acclaim.
Williams portrayed the character of Deacon on the show, which brought him back to prominence for a new generation.
