An artform all its own, street chic fashion has become a signature of a generation. Taking fashion-friendly risks that only they know how, designers can put their audacious attitudes on display to stand out in every crowd, or they can keep it cute, classy, and creative. Either way, you’re drawn into their pieces, and it leaves you wanting more…
In this edition of #TheUrbanTwistAndShoutOut, we meet Jerzey Goldson. With a name to match his home state, Jerzey has taken his choreographic expertise and combined it with his undying love for the streets’ fashion frenzy to create a line of graphic tees that encompass what it means to exude what he calls “superhuman street fashion.” Jerzey sat down with The Urban Twist to tell us a little bit about the launch of his line, and he took us all the way from A to ZEY…
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO PURSUE STREET CHIC FASHION ARTISTRY AS A PROFESSION?
I’ve been a dancer/choreographer all my life, and I’ve had some times that I was discouraged and never felt good enough to accomplish my goals. I had an idea to create a successful thought process and apply it to fashion. I came up with the idea that I want to be my best, reaching my ZENITH point in my artistry. I wanted to be a superhero for my art, accomplishing what I want on my own terms, while looking fly. After my thought process, I turned it into a reality and ZEY-X was born.
WHAT CLOTHING LINES DO YOU LOOK TO WHEN YOU NEED TO SHAKE OFF DESIGNER’S BLOCK?
I have a few designers, lines that I look to. American Apparel is very simple and classic, and brings you back to the all-around look, but when I need an edge and artistic inspiration I look to Balmain and Kenzo.
WHERE DID THE NAME ZEY*X COME FROM?
ZEY-X means to find your highest point, your zenith, and mark the X to stay there forever (X marks the spot). It’s all about being a superheroic artist that is on a constant search to be great.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PROGRESSION IN YOUR ARTISTRY SO FAR?
My progression has been unique but constant. I’ve learned to challenge myself as an artist and I do my best to stay away from things that aren’t a positive impact on me because it affects my artistry. I’m all about working hard and continuous growth, and I have accomplished a lot but not even a fraction of what I know I’m destined to do.
WHAT IS THE MOST ENJOYABLE PART OF WHAT YOU DO?
I’m all about inspiring. If I can inspire one person, then my job is done.
IF ZEY*X HAD ITS OWN THEME SONG, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Firestone by Kygo. This song is all about lighting up the world and being a supernova force. ZEY-X is here to light up the world with good style while representing art.
WHAT IS THE ONE LOOK THAT YOU BELIEVE WILL NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE?
A classic all-black everything and a classic all-white everything will never go out of style. Black and white are to me the two most impactful colors because there is so much depth and story to them.
