The failure to meet the deadline on December 31 meant the sixth season of the HBO TV series Game of Thrones would be aired before the fans of the novel could read The Winds of Winter, its source material.

George R. R. Martin wrote on his blog on Saturday, “But the book’s not done.”

Martin said he asked HBO to ensure that its TV series reflected the continuation of the books A song of Ice and Fire.

Martin wrote in his blog that it needed a few more months to complete The Winds of Winter even though he had written hundreds of pages and dozens of chapters.

Martin said the seventh novel of the series, A Dream of Spring, would be the last.
