Gerald Jennings and his band, Plastic Yellow Band, are attempting to bring on new classic rock in the EP, Above Gravity.
Although the project is inspired by John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band, it falls a little flat to its muse. While the live instruments are lively and beautiful and the lyrics invoke kumbaya feels, the songs are missing a certain fervor.
One standout in the 9-track project filled with sing-along inspirational songs is “When I Rock,” an electric song with a funky guitar hook. “My baby loves me when I rock,” he sings above the rockin’ guitar and piano keys. “I just can’t help myself cause my baby likes me in the limousine,” he continues.
“Starlight” also proves that the group is willing to take some chances as the song goes on for a whopping 21 minutes. It’s “dedicated to all who have lost someone they deeply loved,” according to the press release. Check it all out below.
