Democracy Spring Day 5, 800+ people arrested and no mainstream media coverage. I am appalled and outraged as I watch one of the biggest bi partisan political movements in the United States happen as mainstream media buries it’s head in the sand. The sheer fact that mainstream media is reluctant to touch this story makes clear why this movement is necessary. The media black out makes it apparent that not only should big business be taken out of politics but it has a stronghold on the media too. I guess they can’t risk those big corporate sponsors by reporting what is going on in Washington, D.C. this week.
I am so thankful for independent news outlets like The Young Turks and this one that allow journalist the opportunity to tell the stories that mainstream media won’t.
Since I first reported this story on Monday over 400 more people have been arrested at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. That does not include today’s arrest total. There have been 800+ people arrested in 4 days for exercising their right to PEACEFULLY assemble. There have been 0 reports of violence from the thousands of people who are participating in the mass act of civil disobedience.
They’ve set up camp at D.C.’s Penn Station as well.
Today on their facebook page Democracy Spring announced
Over the course of the last week, 800 people have been arrested calling on Congress to end the corruption of big money in politics and ensure a free and equal voice for all Americans in our political system.
It’s working. The bills we’ve identified have begun picking up new co-sponsors within Congress, and that means ‪#‎DemocracySpring‬ is winning.
Those arrested like Actress Rosario Dawson have been charged with obstructing, crowding and incommoding.
Democracy Spring also notes on their facebook page that this is bigger than them. If you take a look at what’s going on in the country this week it is a citizen uprising against big business. 40,000 Verizon workers on the East Coast are on strike, hundreds of cities have workers striking for $15 per hour minimum wage and thousands of people have went to the nations capitol with the intent on being arrested in the name of justice.
The American people are awake and demanding change. #DemocracySpring is trending on Facebook and Twitter.
The best news coverage on Democracy Spring is coming from The Young Turks whose reporter Cenk Uygar was among the arrests on Monday along with retired Police Captain Ray Lewis. The Young Turks broadcast live from the protests and well as post video updates on regular. They also have live footage on Facebook.

Despite the mainstream media blackout the revolution WILL be televised. Gil Scott Heron was wrong. Who knew.
