MTV’s Video Music Awards have always been known for electrifying and explosive performances. With this in mind, its no surprise that kicking off this year’s festivities were succeeded by none other than Kendrick Lamar. Amidst a dark atmosphere, red lighting, a police brutality report voiceover, and Fox News commentary, Kendrick soon emerged. Decked in a red and white ensemble, Lamar brilliantly delivered a valiant, yet energized medley of his chart toppers “DNA” and” Humble”.
Equipped with ninja inspired dancers and stunt performers, who mixed fiery footwork with climbing a flaming fence, Lamar didn’t cease to amaze. Leading the evening with eight nominations, the Compton, California native took home six awards including video of the year for his hit “Humble.” Not bad at all! With so much fire in one night, one can only wonder what next year will bring!
