It was such an honor to interview Evan Daigle last year when S1 of TNT’s Claws premiered and I was beyond thrilled to get a 2nd opportunity this season to get some twist worthy gossip! “Claws” follows the rise of five diverse and treacherous manicurists working at the Nail Artisan of Manatee County salon in South Florida, where there is a lot more going on than silk wraps and pedicures. Evan plays Toby, the boyfriend of Uncle Daddy, a gangster who uses the salon to launder his drug money.
How does it feel to be back on season 2 of TNT’s ‘Claws’?
It feels great! Having a recurring role means I don’t know to what capacity I’ll be in the show each season, so when I found out I’d be doing six more episode, I was really excited!
I feel like season one was a great time for me to get my footing and really learn what working on a TV set is like. This season I feel a lot more comfortable with my camera acting skills and with the workings of a professional set.
How do you think Toby feels that his lover’s wife got murdered?
He’s devastated. Juanda and Toby were also very close. They all three lived together and were all consenting to each others presence in the relationship. Toby saw Juanda as a mother figure. I think Toby’s also really nervous that what happened to Juanda will happen to him.
In season 2 episode 3, you and Uncle Daddy get caught in some comprising positions and outfits. How many takes did you have to do before that scene was complete?
The funny thing about sex scenes like that is that they are probably the most rehearsed scenes on TV as well as fight scenes. It didn’t take us too many takes to get it down but our director for that episode was really encouraging to try it a bunch of different ways.
Season 2 recently wrapped in June, what did you do to celebrate?
I had a viewing party of the first episode of the new season with friends at my house in Los Angeles.
What do you love most about the Claws writers?
I love how cool they all are. They’re all so grounded and talented. They each use their unique voices to contribute to the show and I think it shows.
Will your character be coming back for season 3?
I sure hope so! I’d love to continue with the show for as long as they’ll have me.
Did you film in any new places in Louisiana?
Not really this season, no. Almost all my scenes were shot on a sound stage.
How has the show opened doors for you?
The show has started my professional career. It has taught me how to work on a TV set and what it’s like working with veteran actors. The show has also given me the opportunity to sign with some awesome reps out here in Los Angeles.
Who is your favorite character on the show and why?
My favorite character is Polly! I think she’s so funny and interesting how she puts on so many personas. Carrie Preston has also been one of my favorite actors for years.
What makes you draw out your ‘Claws’?
When people chew with their mouths open.
