It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Superman: The Movie!

Director Richard Donner’s 1978 live-action Man of Steel film will return to theaters to celebrate its 40th anniversary in a limited release hosted by Fathom Events.

The classic comic book movie features Christopher Reeve as the heroic Man of Steel, Margot Kidder as investigative reporter Lois Lane, and Gene Hackman as the diabolical Lex Luthor.

While this film made an impact with its characters, Superman: The Movie also introduced the world to John William’s unforgettable Superman theme song, which is widely considered to be the definitive Superman theme song.

According to Fandango, the screenings – which is listed as Superman 40th Anniversary – will take place on November 25. The next all-new live-action DC movie, James Wan’s Aquaman, will open about a month later, on December 21.

Superman: The Movie is widely praised for its lighter tone and Reeve’s performance as the hopeful hero. Unfortunately things for the franchise went downhill after the second film, with third and fourth films not living up to expectations for many reasons such as the quality and the plot of the films. Nonetheless, Reeve’s take on the character is often cited as the go-to example of how Superman should be portrayed, still to this day.
