Nothing beats the classics. Time and time again we find ourselves looking and craving for the classic comfort food that has been around for many years now. The best part is that creative food junkies, like the food packaging investors at LBP, have reinvented the classics: they’ve made it even better and more mouth-watering.

Here are some of the new twists on old food favorites:

Bread Pudding

Bread pudding has been around for over centuries. It is the ultimate comfort food, and a universal favorite too. Different countries have made their version, but a certified hit is the salted caramel bread pudding version. Many have now considered this as a go-to treat, best with your afternoon coffee or tea.

Coffee

The traditional coffee-creamer-and sugar is now a thing of the past. We now see different types of coffee today, which satiates the buds of caffeine lovers out there.

Here are some of the new kinds:

  • Red velvet coffee;
  • Creamy latte;
  • Brown coffee;
  • Mocha coffee; and
  • White coffee.

Lasagna

The usual lasagna that you have come to love always has pasta sheets. You might feel that without pasta sheets, lasagna merely is not complete.

Chefs across the world have made their version: some have replaced pasta with flatbread, while others use pita bread. Some even tried incorporating squash into their lasagna. What remains the same? The layers of different kinds of cheese, to still keep that classic Italian flavor that everyone loves.

Cheese Burger

Man’s love for cheeseburger grew, even more, when the fast food industry came to full swing. Today, the cheeseburger you all know of is more than just the BLT, cheeses and burger patty.

There is an influx of healthier alternative such as turkey cheeseburgers, chicken cheeseburger, pretzel burgers, or cheeses like blue cheese, which was previously considered unconventional for burgers. This new variety is well-loved by health-conscious ones, as it lessens the calorie count for every burger.

Bread Crumbs

Breadcrumbs are what we use for just about any deep fried meal: chicken, fish fillet, crab cakes, and sometimes even to go with homemade burger steaks. There’s a new twist that you can try out: pretzel crumbs. All you have to do is crush your pretzels in a blender, or even manually, and use this as breading instead of traditional breadcrumbs.

Fried Chicken

Who doesn’t love their fried chicken? Kids and adults all love the soft, juicy chicken with crispy skin. There are now twists to this all-time favorite, to name a few:

  1. Honey-glazed sesame chicken;
  2. Buttered chicken;
  3. Garlic chicken; or
  4. Spicy chicken (why not add spice using tikka masala spices).

Pulled Pork

Pulled pork is always a best seller in any barbeque joint. Peanut butter & jelly sandwiches are also a hit with kids. Barbeque enthusiasts have come up with their version: mixing peanut butter and pulled pork in one sandwich. Those who have tried it swore by its sinfully delicious combination.

Beef Stew

Beef stew is always a hit with Asians. But, when they come to Western countries, they usually find it difficult to come up with the exact beef stew that Asians are used to at home; unless, they are willing to scout out the nearest Asian store.

Hence, Korean friends have come up with an alternative. You can now make Asian beef stew by using ingredients that are readily available in supermarkets across America and Europe: replacing Korean pepper and pickles with jalapeño and sour dill pickles.

Pizza

Pepperoni pizza is no longer just everyone’s go-to weekend movie night treat. The all-American pizza now has added varieties all over the world, such as:

  • Anchovies pizza;
  • Vegetarian pizza;
  • Scallops and bacon pizza;
  • Bacon and apple pizza; or
  • Kimchi pizza.

Pancakes

There was a time when diner enthusiasts can imagine their pancakes only with maple syrup. This pancake style is no longer how it is enjoyed today. Breakfast lovers now indulge in including egg whites in their pancakes to go for a lighter and moister version.

Pancake sides also now include the following:

  • Blueberry syrup;
  • Strawberry syrup;
  • Whipped cream;
  • Nutella; or even
  • Cream cheese.

Apple Pie

There is no stopping anybody from loving apple pie. For many years, the apple pie also had a lot of new versions to satisfy people’s taste buds. Some of these are:

  • Apple pie bars. Your classic apple pie is no longer just confined to the circle pies that are traditionally known. Bakers have now come up with bars.
  • Cinnamon apple pie. This flavor is still your classic apple pie, but with an added touch of cinnamon.
  • Peanuts mixed with apple pie.

Mac n Cheese

Mac n cheese has been around for many years. Our grandparents and parents loved it, and so do we. Children always love the classic cheddar cheese mac n cheese. Today, there are new variations:

  1. Holiday mac n cheese, with tomato sauce, evaporated milk, mushrooms, chicken breast slices, and cheese;
  1. Mac n cheese with extra cheese spread on the top;
  1. Four cheese mac n cheese; and
  1. Mac n cheese with baked vegetables.

Innovation is not only in the world of technology; food has slowly become innovative, too, and these examples are proven to be delicious twists to classic favorites. All you need to do now is search your neighborhood for these treats and give yourself a nostalgic memory of remembering your childhood favorites, which are now made even better.
