A recent survey by The Coleman Company Inc. reported that about 11% of campers were new to outdoor activities. First-time campers need to learn the difficulties of camping and even learn some of the essential camping tips and tricks.

Here are some handy tips that new campers can learn to minimize mistakes and enjoy their first outdoor recreational activity to the fullest.

Hunt for the Ideal Campsite that Fits Your Needs

Traditional camping, where campers need to prepare everything themselves, is not the only option available today. Tentrr, for example, provides several campsite options depending on the campers’ preference. Aside from the traditional way of camping, Tentrr offers curated glamping and fully-equipped campsites.

Once you know what type of campsite you prefer, go ahead and book it while checking for the date availability and route.

Be Familiar with the Camping Gears

Since it’s going to be a relatively new activity, especially if you’re a first-time camper, you should be familiar with the equipment before setting out. This is essential if you want to enjoy the traditional way of camping and evolve to becoming the expert camper.

Learning how to set up each camping gear will save a lot of time. Otherwise, you will waste time trying to figure out how to operate and set up the equipment.

Test the gears before going to the actual site. Try setting up a tent in your yard or spend the night in a sleeping bag to see how it goes. From there, you can make the necessary adjustments and modify whatever is needed to achieve the best comfort.

Pick a Comfortable Tent

Avoid picking a small tent that’s suitable for one or two people. You and your group may find yourselves crowded and uncomfortable inside that tent. A good rule of thumb is to pick a tent that can fit an additional two people. For example, a family of 5 should go for at least an 8 people tent.

As for transporting the tent, most available tents in the market have no problems fitting inside a car’s trunk, so campers do not need to worry about its size or weight.

Create Your Checklist

One crucial thing that first-time campers usually overlook is a checklist. Forgetting an essential item can ruin the whole activity. Preparing a list can help you stay organized during the trip and ensure that you have packed everything.

A checklist also makes it easy for campers to revise and add other things that are needed for the trip. You can remove costly and unwanted items or include essential stuff into the list.

Always Be Prepared

Camping brings a lot of unpredictable things, and campers need to be ready all the time. Be sure to bring enough clothes, keeping in mind that no laundry facilities will be available at the campsite. You should also consider the weather conditions and prepare clothes that are suitable for that type of weather, such as a raincoat or jacket.

If you’re a first-timer, equip yourself with the right knowledge and skills before going out camping to avoid frustration and wasted resources.
