Whether you’re a digital nomad, a small startup or you’re considering trying out a more flexible office arrangement, one of these 6 cities might be the perfect place for you.

With the growing digital revolution, a new way of working has emerged. And with it a new type of worker – the digital nomad. This has spurred an increase in the number of coworking spaces throughout the U.S.

There’s no doubt that coworking is the future of work. As the gig economy grows, so does the concept of hot desking. According to the 2018 Future Workforce Report, there is likely to be a 168% increase in the remote workforce by 2028.

Remote workers, freelancers, subcontractors, consultants, and others who work with multiple employers use hot desking to get the best of both worlds. By renting a desk when they need one, they lower their work-related costs, but also have access to printing and office supplies, a social setting where they can share ideas with others, and often access to networking events. They can choose to work independently or be a part of a collaborative community.

Check out the list below if you’re considering moving to a new city and want to know where to find the best hot desking space.

1) San Jose, CA

As the largest city in Silicon Valley and home to thousands of tech firms, it’s not surprising that San Jose has a ton of hot desking office space. These spaces come with all the expected amenities such as high-speed internet, unlimited coffee, tea, and snacks, meeting spaces, and special membership perks. Some even include weekly catered lunches. Perhaps the best perk is access to a great community of entrepreneurs and innovators.

As the economic, cultural, and political hub of Silicon Valley, San Jose features a multicultural scene filled with museums, parks and trails, visual and performing arts venues, sports teams, and notable landmarks. There are tons of local bars where you can catch a live music show and cafes where you can grab a coffee and a snack.

The city consistently ranks as one of the safest, happiest, and healthiest large cities. Hiking, biking, and running are practically a way of life. From tacos and burritos to Vietnamese Pho and Japanese fare to In-N-Out Burger, you’ll find just about any type of food you crave.

2) Chelsea, NYC

From modern art galleries to historical buildings, Chelsea, NYC, is packed with inspiration and culture. The area is home to many industries, including fashion design, architecture, fitness, tech, and more. These features make it truly one of the best cities for hot desking. New York is a hard-working city where people work long hours, making a hot desking office space that gives you 24/7 access a necessity. It’s a busy, bustling city with a population that is incredibly busy and focused. Whether you enjoy working in a community atmosphere or on your own, you’re sure to find a space that suits your working style.

With approximately 800 languages spoken in the city, the workforce is incredibly diverse. It’s a walking city in the sense that the residents don’t own cars but either walk or take the subway everywhere. Since most apartments are small, people tend to entertain out rather than have friends over. Luckily, there are a plethora of restaurants, parks, and bars perfect for this purpose. From fine dining to food trucks and everything in between, you’ll have plenty of options.

3) Washington, D.C.

Yes, the nation’s capital just so happens to be one of the best cities for hot desking. Washington, DC, may not be the first city that comes to mind when it comes to hot desking, but the city has recently experienced a growth spurt in hot desking spaces. With a young population and a burgeoning startup scene, the District of Columbia is evolving from its traditional roots into a city at the forefront of innovation and change.

Almost 30% of the city’s population is between the ages of 20-34, and it rates as one of the top cities for well-being. Approximately 14% of the workforce is employed by the Federal government, making the public sector one of the largest employers in the city. However, the city is also home to highly skilled professionals, including accountants, lawyers, engineers, and medical professionals.

The greater D.C. area is evolving into a leading-edge knowledge economy, and the city’s population is the best educated of any large metro city in the U.S. It is moving towards being a world-class knowledge, creativity, and technology hub that is whole-heartedly embracing the future of work.

4) Cambridge, MA

As the innovation culture grows in Cambridge and the surrounding neighborhoods, the city has seen a rise in hot desking spaces geared towards entrepreneurs, freelancers, and small businesses. These collaborative working communities paired with the resources and professionals provided by nearby MIT, Harvard, and Tufts have helped accelerate the city’s startup culture.

The city’s history and architecture provides a cultural adventure, with ballgames at Fenway Park, numerous jazz clubs, walks through the Public Gardens, and biking along the Charles river. The Head of the Charles Regatta is not to be missed, even if you don’t particularly care for rowing.

Hot desking in Cambridge gives you the opportunity to bounce your ideas off fellow freelancers and entrepreneurs. The city has thriving higher education and medical sectors, as well as being a biotech, finance, and publishing hub.

5) Seattle, WA

Famous for its cloudy weather and 90s grunge, Seattle is making a splash these days for its current tech boom. With an increasing number of Seattleites telecommuting or starting their own businesses, hot desking space is popping up all over the city. The presence of Amazon and Microsoft has drawn talented entrepreneurs willing to try their hand at creating the next big thing.

In addition to tech entrepreneurs, you’ll find hot desking space in Seattle filled with all types of creatives, lawyers, engineers, developers, designers, and freelance writers. If you can think of it, chances are you’ll find someone building a community around it.

Seattle’s multicultural workforce is reflected in its multicultural food scene. You’ll find excellent seafood, a wide range of world cuisine, beer and coffee culture, and easy access to locally grown fare. It’s a great city for food, nightlife, and outdoor adventures.

6) Denver, CO

Known as a city for technology innovation, Denver’s startup culture has created a burgeoning hot desking and coworking scene. The tech sector is huge here, and the city is one of the fastest-growing hubs for new tech like A.I. and machine learning as well as blockchain and other cryptocurrencies. This goes hand in hand with the burgeoning cannabis industry.

Aerospace, broadcast and telecommunications, healthcare and wellness, financial services, bioscience, energy, and IT-software all have a significant presence in the city. It is fast becoming a top place for Millennials to move to grow their careers. In addition, Denver offers year-round outdoor excitement, from hiking to running trails to fishing to rafting to skiing, you can find almost any type of outdoor activity you want nearby.

These are some of the best cities with dynamic startup and entrepreneurial cultures and the hot desking and coworking spaces to support them.

So, whether you’re a digital nomad, a small startup, or you’re considering trying out a more flexible office arrangement, one of these 6 cities might be the perfect place for you.
