Some shocking revelations that include a prince putting his own mother on house arrest come to light in a new book about Saudi Arabia’s Crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman.
Written by Beirut bureau chief Ben Hubbard, “MBS: The Rise to Power of Mohammed bin Salman,” details the prince’s lavish and controversial lifestyle.
“As soon as he had appeared on the scene, American spies had gathered information about him for a personality profile, as they did of all foreign leaders. That had turned up a perplexing situation: MBS had locked his own mother in a palace with two of her sisters. Even more perplexing was that he was hiding his mother’s whereabouts from his own father, the king.”
The book also sheds light on how misleading the Crown prince was when his own father questioned him about the whereabouts of his wife, “MBS and his aides would proffer excuses, usually saying she was abroad for medical treatment,” but, “she had stopped showing up at family weddings, funerals, and holiday celebrations, leading them to conclude that her son had locked her up somewhere. But, like the Americans, they didn’t know why.”
Many people questioned the Crown prince about his mother until she recently made a few public appearances with no explanation of her whereabouts.
According to sources, Bin Salman was afraid his mother would interfere with his power. The crown prince has also been detaining other high-profile members of the royal family.
