The guy who was accepted into the home of stranger Wanda Dench following a big text mishap back in 2016, is now accepting love and prayers as he has revealed that the sweet woman has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Daily Dot pointed out a tweet from Jamal Hinton that read, “I am so sad to announce that Wanda and Lonnie both have COVID-19 and that Lonnie is currently in the hospital fighting both COVID and Pneumonia,” Hinton said in a tweeted update earlier this week. “Please send words of love and encouragement their way.”
Hinton and Dench went viral four years ago after he shared a text message from the grandmother who accidentally invited him to her Thanksgiving dinner. Hinton responded by asking Dench to send a selfie so he could see who she was and then sent her one of his own. After realizing there had been a mix-up, Hinton was curious to know if he could “still get a plate.” Dench responded, “Of course you can,” adding, “That’s what grandmas do…feed everyone.” Since then, they’ve continued to celebrate the special holiday together.
Earlier this Friday, Hinton shared another tweet, saying that he planned on providing additional updates this weekend:
“So many people are asking for more info and updates and I plan on giving one tomorrow or so. Thank you, everyone, who is sending love and keeping Lonnie in their prayers. This is a super tough time but I know we’ll get through it. Love you all and please stay safe.”
