Uber now plans to require face coverings for its drivers and riders in the US similar to what all major US airlines now requiring on all flights. They will now be providing drivers with safety supplies to provide “essential trips” while they still encourage riders to stay home if they can,.
As the rideshare company looks to restart its business across the country, executives have now approved the new policy that will roll out in the next few weeks. Included is an addition to its “Real Time ID-check,” which verifies the identity of its drivers; and it will now verify that they are wearing coverings before beginning their shifts.
Furthermore, a spokesperson adds, “As countries reopen, Uber is focused on safety and proceeding with caution. Our teams are preparing for the next phase of recovery, where we will all have a role to play. We’ll communicate updates directly to users when ready, but in the meantime, we continue to urge all riders and drivers to wear masks or face coverings when using Uber.”
