Analyze the essay prompt

You should start by analyzing the essay prompt. As this is the most important step in writing essays or research papers. To analyze the essay prompt, you need to ask yourself certain questions like:

  • What is the essay?
  • How long should the essays be?
  • Is the essay asking for my opinion or an opinion of a credible source?

Once you have the answers to these questions, you will easily be able to understand the structure of your essay. And how you should write it.

Make an outline

The next thing that you need to do is create an outline of your essay before you starting writing it. Like what points you are going to cover, how you are going to drive your essay to the end and what kind of information you are going to include. By creating a structure before, you will get a clear idea about what topics you have to research and write about. Instead of getting confused.

Research the topic:

The second point is researching about the topic. Well, if you are luck enough you might get a topic that won’t need any kind of research but as we are quite aware that, most of the time we don’t get we know about.

So, what you need here is systematic research and systematic research means doesn’t mean just learning from one single source. Just make sure that you are referring from multiple sources before you start writing.

Referring from multiple sources will provide you with a great deal of information and you will be able to add a lot of information to your essay.

Write down the body at first and not an introduction

We usually start writing an essay from the introduction part. As it is the easiest thing to write. But do not do that while you are writing. The reason is that when you write and introduction, you need to construct the body of the essay according to that itself and this becomes quite an issue for a lot of students.

Another reason is that, here are quite a lot of students who struggle to write down a perfect and engaging introduction. So in order to avoid being bogged down, you better create the introduction later.

Instead, start writing your essay body and put all the information you have. Also, once you finish writing your body, you will have enough ideas about your topic. And you can use that information to write down an introduction.

This will help you to create an informative yet engaging introduction for your essay.

Begin each paragraph with a topic sentence

You should begin each paragraph with the topic sentence. This will help you to express the main idea of the paragraph. Each paragraph should also contain quotes or contextual information that will defend your topic sentences and thesis statement.

Use credible sources

Finally, you should use credible sources in your essay. When you use quotes and contextual information in your essay, it helps you to support your argument. However, do not just go ahead and pick some random quotes. Instead, the source should be a credible one.

Like, you can use academic journals, peer reviewed articles, textbooks, books by famous authors, and so on.

However, you should not use sources like magazine articles, open forum submissions, encyclopedia entries, and unverified online sources. Also, one of the best ways to find genuine sources and quotes is to look under Google Scholar.

Writing the essay:

Well, this might seem like the easiest part but it is the easy parts where we make most of the mistakes. So just be sure that you are not in a hurry while writing the essay, take your time and write it peacefully. Don’t run the same ideas over and over again as this would push the reader away. While writing the introduction be sure not to give away all the information, talk very less about the contents of the body.

This check is very important as grammar and spelling mistakes can quite easily spoil your whole essay. And all your research and hard work will be nothing. Well, what you need to do here is read the essay carefully and check whether there are any grammatical or spelling mistakes or not. If there are then make sure to do the proper corrections.
