Rapper Pop Smoke’s murder remains unsolved and apparently a large part of that is due to the Coronavirus.
According to TMZ, police sources report that their resources are spread thin due to COVID-19 which has severely hindered any progress in the murder investigation.
Detectives have been attempting to gather evidence by speaking to witnesses face-to-face, however, it has been an issue due to the safety risks. In addition, witnesses were already hesitant to talk due to the nature of the crime.
Police are remaining optimistic and hope that the rapper’s upcoming posthumous debut album will push people to come forward and help.
As we reported, Smoke, whose real name is Bashar Barakah Jackson, was at a home on Hercules drive in the Hollywood Hills in February, when two men allegedly broke in wearing hoodies and masks. Police sources report that there was a party at the residence prior to the shooting.
Law enforcement sources state that the men “fired multiple shots critically wounding” Pop Smoke. The rapper was taken to Cedars-Sinai hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police believe it was a targeted hit as nothing was stolen from the property. The motive for the murder is still unclear.
