You’d think El-P, a native New Yorker, would be overjoyed to be mentioned as a clue in the day’s fan-favorite crossword puzzle in his hometown paper. The New York Times’ hint was “Rapper who’s half of Run The Jewels,” referring to El-collaboration P’s with Killer Mike. So he described his latest achievement as “pretty cool” on Instagram, but he was still enthusiastic enough to share it. He was surrounded by notable celebrities like Patton Oswalt and Ryan Reynolds on the puzzle, so he was in good company.

Of course, he’s El-P, a rapper who’s had success in three decades has scored video games based on the Blade Runner series (as well as submitting a score for the film), and was even quoted during Donald Trump’s impeachment trial. He has a lot of cool stuff happen to him. He’s currently discussing some of those cool stuff as well as many of his many contributions to the hip-hop canon on a podcast with Open Mike Eagle, and he’ll be touring with Rage Against The Machine with Killer Mike in 2022. They’ll be on the road with their critically acclaimed 2020 album, RTJ4, which was hailed as one of the best of the year thanks to songs like “A Few Words For The Firing Squad” and “Ooh La La.”
