LeBron James and his roommates have always been outspoken about Black people’s rights and police brutality, but Donald Trump seems to wish he would just stick to basketball. Donald Trump, who is also barred from all social media, recently issued a statement blasting LeBron James for his “racist rants.”
Trump’s statement calling out LeBron James, read: “LeBron James should focus on basketball rather than presiding over the destruction of the NBA, which has just recorded the lowest television RATINGS, by far, in the long and distinguished history of the League. His RACIST rants are divisive, nasty, insulting, and demeaning. He may be a great basketball player, but he is doing nothing to bring our Country together!”
LeBron James made (and later deleted) a post about officer Nicholas Reardon, who fatally shot Ma’Khia Bryant four times in the chest earlier this week. LeBron wrote, “YOU’RE NEXT #ACCOUNTABILITY” along with a photo of Reardon. After he received backlash from several Republicans he deleted the tweet and instead posted more of his thoughts about police accountability. “I’m so damn tired of seeing Black people killed by police. I took the tweet down because it’s being used to create more hate—This isn’t about one officer. It’s about the entire system and they always use our words to create more racism. I am so desperate for more ACCOUNTABILITY,” he wrote.
