Lindsey Lohan’s father, Michael Lohan, appears to have gotten himself into some trouble after allegedly being involved in a scheme involving taking drug users to rehab facilities in return for money. Michael was arrested on Friday and charged with “patient brokering,” according to NBC News. More than 100 people are said to have been arrested as a result of the operation, which took place in Palm Beach County.
Charging documents show that he is facing five counts of patient brokering and one count of attempted patient brokering. State Attorney Dave Aronberg said, “Mr. Lohan was investigated by our Sober Homes Task Force and he’s being charged with receiving kickbacks for referring patients to drug treatment. Patient brokering corrupts our health care system because decisions are motivated by greed instead of a patient’s needs. This is our Task Force’s 117th arrest and will not be our last.”
In the suspected scam, checks worth more than $25,000 were made out to Michael, according to documents. Prior to his arrest, Lohan talked with an investigator about the activity on April 8th and denied being involved, according to the arrest records. Many citizens are said to participate in the many rehab services available in South Florida, making it a well-known state for rehabilitation. According to CBS News, they reached out to Lohan’s lawyer for comment on his detention, but he has yet to respond.
