Things seemed to be going well at the start of 2020. Artists put on gigs, and people came to see them, with neither party having to worry about the arrangement. Of course, that changed a few months into the year when the coronavirus pandemic became a major global concern. For most people, the most recent concert they’ve seen is one they saw in February or early March. From February 24 to 26, Death Cab For Cutie performed a series of shows at Seattle’s legendary The Showbox, which they filmed and are now releasing as a live album, Live At The Showbox.
The 17-track album will be available on Bandcamp for a one-day only release on May 7 before being released to the general public later this year. In a statement about the record, the band said:
“Like so many other artists, we expected to play a lot of shows in 2020. To gear up for the year ahead, we decided to warm up by playing an intimate, three-night stand at a venue that’s near and dear to our hearts — the Showbox in Seattle. Well, 2020 didn’t quite turn out as we had planned — but happily those three magical nights last February did, and we’re glad to say that we had them recorded.”
