Nicki Minaj’s most recent full-length album, Queen, was released in August 2018. The album was a letdown, failing to match the hype and consistency of her previous albums and mixtapes. After Queen, Minaj released a few singles for fans, including “Yikes,” “Megatron,” and “Trollz” with Tekashi 69, but nothing led to a new album. Now, fans are hoping that this will change soon, as Minaj makes her long-awaited return with the re-release of Beam Me Up Scotty, one of her most famous mixtapes.
The tape was updated with five new songs, including Drake and Lil Wayne’s “Seeing Green,” their first collaboration since 2018’s “No Frauds.” New songs with G Herbo and others are included in the re-release. The anticipation for the new music started earlier this week when Minaj posted a photo of herself on social media with the caption “F R I D A Y.” While that particular post did not confirm the arrival of music, she would later announce that a new album was on the way in a later post, writing, “New (music notes emoji) @ MIDNIGHT.”
After a series of highs and lows for Minaj, the track arrives. The rapper’s 2014 single “Anaconda” was the first female solo rap song to cross a billion views on YouTube last month. With over a billion views, she tied Katy Perry and Rihanna for the most overall music videos. The achievement came after Minaj’s father was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Long Island, which led to the arrest of a 70-year-old man.
