If you haven’t already been a fan of The Linda Lindas after seeing their furious, absolutely punk rock show in a LA library a few weeks ago, you will be. The Los Angeles Public Library held a series of performances, including “TEENtastic Tuesdays,” to commemorate AAPI Heritage Month, which takes place in May. The Linda Lindas, on the other hand, raised the bar to a whole new level when they took the stage a few weeks ago on May 4.
When the girls recount their encounter with a boy who was taught discriminatory behavior by his parents, they explode into an epic rage that wipes out not only him, but all the other “racist sexist boys” on the planet.
“A little while before we went into lockdown, a boy in my class came up to me and said that his dad told him to stay away from Chinese people,” one of the band members begins. “After I told him that I was Chinese he backed away from me. Eloise and I wrote this song based on that experience. So this is about him and all the other racist, sexist boys in this world.”
The band then performs the video, which has over a million views after an appreciative fan posted it on Twitter with the caption: “This is the first band I will be RUNNING to see once I get my second shot.” She is right! I’ll be in line to purchase a ticket as well.
