Since the beginning of her career, Maggie Rogers has been somewhat of a Cinderella story in the music world. The indie pop star’s first track “Alaska” developed an almost magical narrative after an auspicious analysis by Pharrell Williams, who was visiting her NYU class. Pharrell had “zero notes” after hearing her perform the song and merely remarks on her uniqueness. That may be true, but Rogers has now joined a long list of other artists when it comes to the significance of her glitchy dance-pop — on June 1st, her song “Alaska” was certified RIAA Gold. Not only that, but in June, another of the artist’s songs, “Light On,” was certified Gold.
The artist also announced the news on Twitter, posting a screenshot of the accolades with a simple “thank you” message.
Rogers released her debut full-length, Heard It In A Past Life, in early 2019 after her debut EP, Now That The Light Is Fading, in 2017. Both “Light On” and “Alaska” appeared on her debut album, and the singer/songwriter has informed fans that rather than releasing completely new music, she believed it was vital to share her older tracks from 2011 to 2016. So she released Notes From The Archive: Recordings 2011 – 2016 late last year to give her fans a glimpse into what lead up to “Alaska” and everything else. She’ll most likely be back on tour soon now that the world is opening up to her, and she’ll hopefully be releasing new music soon as well. For now, she deserves a few days of basking in her new accomplishments.
