YouTube/Fox 11 Comedian Mo’Nique took to Instagram in a two-part unapologetic viral video about Black women wearing bonnets in public, mostly at airports, causing a social media outrage. The Oscar winner emphasized that Black women should not wear bonnets in public because she believes it detracts from their inherent beauty.
She said she felt obliged to speak up since her words didn’t come from a place of “judgment,” but rather from a “one of love.”
Many women supported her, while others disagreed. ‘I get what you’re saying,’ said one of Mo’Nique’s adoring admirers. In my family, this was a major deal. They always made sure they were attractive when they walked outside, from my Great-great-grandmother through my mother. They also advised us to wear clean underpants whenever we went out. ‘You never know what could happen!’
The comedian argued that ladies do not need to wear lace frontal wigs or wear a lot of makeup to be respectable as Black women. Fans that disagreed with Mo’Nique said so because they believed that one’s appearance should not determine how one is perceived.
Any woman who takes pride in her appearance knows it’s a hard job to keep a 40-inch lace wig intact while traveling. So we took it upon ourselves to find Black influencers with haircare lines that include stylish headscarves, bonnets, and hair products to maintain healthy hair. Among them, Toya Johnson “Before Bed Headz”. Kendra Johnson of “Kendra’s Boutique,” and Jesseca Dupart of the “Kaleidoscope Hair Products,” have the right products for all your hair needs, including stylish bonnets to keep your hair intact.
So ladies, are you rocking your bonnet or not?
