E3 2021 will be one of the strangest E3s ever. They’re holding a virtual event in 2021 after canceling the event in 2020 due to the coronavirus epidemic. While this is novel and different, it is possible that E3 will become more of a virtual event in the future as things return to normal.
After all, instead of attempting to fit everything into a keynote address in a crowded auditorium, it allows developers to create their presentations in video forms. We’ll have to wait and see what it means in the future, but we do know that it will imply a lot more remote-focused expo than in previous years. And one of the clearest signs that things aren’t going to be the same this year is the fact that E3 has its own trailer.
Normally, E3 just occurs, and they let word of mouth determine everything, but this trailer could be in response to the direct rivalry they’re up against this year from Summer Game Fest. The trailer itself is exactly what we’d expect from an event devoted to, well, watching trailers. It features several of the event’s sponsors, as well as a few significant video game titles and some well-known names.
And while it does create a little bit of excitement about what’s coming, there are no real teasers as to what kinds of games we’re going to see at this year’s E3. All of that will have to wait for, presumably, the real trailers we’ll see this weekend.
