The greatest detective in history is Sherlock Holmes. Anyone who has read the novels, seen the movies, or watched one of the TV episodes can attest to the fictitious British detective’s brilliance. There’s no mystery he can’t solve, yet we don’t see enough of a study of Holmes’ feelings as a man beyond a smart detective in Holmes novels. That appears to be the case in the trailer for Sherlock Holmes Chapter One.
It depicts a young Holmes who is depressed on himself and just wants to get through the day. He has a difficult time getting out of bed, taking a step forward, and suddenly we’re plunged into some of the game’s potential action. A melancholy Sherlock Holmes kneels in front of Violet Holmes’ grave toward the end of the trailer. This time around, he has a puzzle to solve.
This Holmes appears to be a young man, perhaps even one who hasn’t yet embarked on a career as a detective. It’s a Holmes game that fans are sure to like, and given the presence of a cemetery, we can only assume there’s a murder mystery involved. Let’s get our pipes and detective hats ready because we’ve got a mystery to solve.
To be honest, it’s surprising that there aren’t more Sherlock Holmes games. Because of his popularity, the detective is an ideal protagonist for mystery-style games. There are also a plethora of game styles from which creators can choose. Holmes can be a physical brawler, he can be puzzle solving, or he could just be a virtual novel. The variety of choices at disposal when it comes to him are great, and hopefully, Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is an entry point into a more broad Holmes gaming universe.
