Saweetie’s long-awaited first album, Pretty B*tch Music, is still on track for a summer release, and she continued her apparently never-ending media tour with a cover story for Complex and an appearance on the outlet’s interview show GOAT Talk. In the latter, she included her favorite culinary creations (for which she has received almost as much attention as her music), as well as her favorite songs by J. Cole and Nicki Minaj, two of her biggest influences.
Saweetie rapped for J. Cole outside one of his performances long before she recorded her hit track “ICY GRL” and became a household name, gaining some support from the elder rapper. Saweetie chose “Cost Me A Lot” from Cole’s 2010 mixtape Friday Night Lights as his greatest song of all time when asked. When asked if she’d like to cooperate with her underground hero in an interview for the cover story, she says yes… with one catch. “Yes, on production,” she confirms.
Saweetie is unable to choose just one Nicki Minaj song as her favorite. She says, “I feel like we have to travel to two different libraries.” “There’s Nicki from the mixtapes and Nicki from the mainstream… The obvious pick for mixtape Nicki is ‘Itty Bitty Piggy‘ [from the 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty], but a song I truly loved from the depths of my spirit was [Lil Wayne-featuring 2008 Sucka Free cut] ‘Higher Than A Kite.’ Because of Nicki’s high-velocity flow, Saweetie chooses “I Wanna Be With You” from DJ Khaled’s 2013 album Suffering From Success.
