The identities of the men’s basketball team that will represent the United States in the Tokyo Olympics are starting to seep out. On Tuesday, it was reported that Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors have committed to joining the roster for this summer’s festivities.
Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes has the newest All-Star to throw their hat into the ring. The Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum has reportedly committed to going overseas this summer in order to help the US men’s team capture its fourth consecutive gold medal.
This would be Tatum’s chance to redeem himself on the world stage, as he was one of the players who represented the United States at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China. During the tournament, Tatum hurt his ankle, and the United States finished seventh, marking the first time the team had failed to medal in a major international championship since 2002.
Since then, Tatum has matured as a player, and this past season, the Celtics’ star enjoyed his finest overall season in the league. In 35.8 minutes per game, Tatum averaged 26.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists.
