After something strange appeared on his Twitter account, Jay Williams became the latest Twitter user to claim “I got hacked.” Following the announcement that the Boston Celtics had hired Brooklyn Nets assistant Ime Udoka as their next head coach, Williams congratulated Udoka on being the franchise’s first black head coach.
That statement is incorrect — for example, Bill Russell coached the Celtics and was the first African-American head coach in NBA history, and Doc Rivers was in charge directly before Brad Stevens — so Williams removed his tweet and responded:
No one believed it, and it appears that Jalen Rose, a fellow ESPN basketball analyst, was one of them. They were on set for Game 3 of the Clippers-Suns series and spent some time talking about Game 1 of the Hawks-Bucks series. Williams made a valid argument about Trae Young cooking Milwaukee’s defense if it used drop coverage on him, but Rose, being the professional that he is, snuck in a “I got hacked” as an apology for being wrong.
Let this serve as a lesson to all of us: don’t go after Jalen Rose, because he’ll gladly bring things like this up on national television.
