Matthew McConaughey’s probable run for governor of Texas is progressing more quickly than expected. The Oscar winner hasn’t yet entered the contest, but surveys show him trailing incumbent Greg Abbott by by a few points. Ted Cruz, a Texan lawmaker, is among many who are opposed to yet another Hollywood star entering politics. But, based on a video he published on Independence Day, having EdTV’s star lead The Lone Star State would at the very least be…interesting.
The video, which was shared on Twitter with the words “happy 245th birthday America – lets rock,” runs for about 2 12 minutes and features the potential governor candidate summarizing a long, odd 2020.
“As we celebrate our independence today, as we celebrate our birth as a nation, the day that sparked a revolution to reclaim our sovereignty,” he said, “let us recognize that this last year, this voyage around the sun, was also another mind scratcher.”
Then he attempted to put things into context. “But let us not forget that as a country, we are infants,” he added. “In compared to other countries’ timelines, we’re practically going through puberty, and we’re going to have growing pains.”
But, he maintained, that’s normal. “This is not an excuse; it is simply the reality,” he stated. “This is excellent because we have to keep learning, evolving, striving, ascending, and building,” he added. “And, as we continue to evolve, we must ensure that we keep hope.”
And we can’t not continue to evolve, he said. “Because the alternative sucks.”
Alright alright alright, man.
