The long-awaited Space Jam sequel/reboot A New Legacy is just around the horizon, and Lil Tecca’s video “Gametime” from the film’s freshly released soundtrack hits peak levels of promotional synergy for the film and its related merchandise.
Tecca’s song, which has a verse and a hook from Portland artist Aminé, is not only featured on the soundtrack, but the video also features the two rappers playing the New Legacy tie-in game together on Xbox. Instead of being an arcade-style basketball game, which the gaming world sorely needs right now, the game is a side-scrolling beat-em-up starring an animated LeBron James fighting his way through swarms of foes a la The Simpsons and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from the 1990s.
Tecca, who wasn’t even alive when any of the above products were released, is digitized and joins LeBron in the game, assisting him in defeating the animated legions of bad guys while showing the colorfully retro gameplay. I still think the game should have been an NBA Jam-style basketball sim starring Bugs Bunny, but if you don’t want to play a beat-em-up, Fortnite is getting a Candy Crush update and some LeBron-themed DLC.
