During his time in Kansas City, Travis Kelce has established himself as one of the league’s greatest tight ends and has become a household figure among NFL fans. However, we have all — and I mean all — been saying his last name incorrectly for the length of his career, according to a revelation made this week.
Kelce claims that his last name should be pronounced “Kels,” not “Kel-see,” as everyone has always said, but that he just “rolled with it” when everyone said “Kel-see.” If this information astounds you, you’re not alone; Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs are experiencing an existential crisis as a result of it all.
As someone spotted in a video before the 2020 AFC title game, he has evidently spoken it the “correct” way previously.
The Kel-see/Kels controversy, on the other hand, dates back to his brother, Eagles center Jason, who was listed on the University of Cincinnati pronunciation guide under the name “Kel-see” in 2007.
Travis may be doing this merely to amuse everyone, which would be in line with his sense of humor, but it’s plausible that the entire NFL world is trying to figure out if we’ve been mispronouncing their last name for more than a decade.
