David Letterman’s 33-year career as a late-night host came to an end in 2015, and he’s presumably been relaxing since then, though we’ve seen him return for more in-depth interviews in Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. However, one of his most popular segments will continue on TBS, which is looking to expand its unscripted programming. Stupid Pet Tricks will air as a stand-alone show, according to Deadline, and Sarah Silverman will host the undoubtedly exciting venture.
That section, believe it or not, aired for three decades, here and there and never predictably, and Letterman is helping to executive produce this show through his Worldwide Pants production business. Expect a “parade of pets” to do strange things, with a live audience to react and criticize them. Here’s what more Deadline has to say:
The series, Stupid Pet Tricks, aims to keep all of the original segment’s charm, silliness, and appreciation for the often-absurd bond between humans and their animal companions, while infusing it with a quirky tone, thanks to Silverman. Every episode will showcase a parade of pets… all competing for the coveted title of Stupidest Trick of the Week.
Given that filming will begin in 2021, the show should be available soon. While we’re on the issue, let me just say that I’m relieved that “Creepy Dave” won’t be getting a dramatized solo show or anything. But I wouldn’t mind seeing more of Rupert Jee and the Hello Deli. Please enjoy this dog who uttered, “Obama,” while we wait for Stupid Pet Tricks to come.
