The Killers aren’t known for having a lot of guest appearances on their albums, but there’s one on their upcoming release, Pressure Machine. Yesterday, the band released the album tracklist, revealing that Phoebe Bridgers appears on the song “Runaway Horses.”
Fans who have been paying attention have known about Bridgers’ presence for weeks: When the album was first announced, some pre-order pages mentioned that Bridgers would be featured on it. However, the cat appeared to have gotten out of the bag earlier than expected, as those pages were promptly changed to delete that information.
Bridgers and Flowers had a talk for Interview Magazine about this time last year, so they have some history with each other. Bridgers and Conor Oberst (together known as Better Oblivion Community Center) had covered The Killers’ “Human” a year prior.
“We were discussing [Flowers] relocating to [Nephi, Utah] as a kid and being stuck in the middle of nothing, and throughout COVID-19, it started to seem like we were all in the middle of nowhere,” drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. previously said of the next album. “I realized this pain that I hadn’t dealt with, and many recollections of my time in Nephi are tender,” Flowers continued. The ones associated with terror or severe sadness, on the other hand, were emotionally charged. I have a better knowledge now than when we first formed the band, and I believe I was able to do justice to the stories and lives of the people in this small town where I grew up.”
